Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What else is needed to complete a basic rack set up?
A: You will need two pairs of clips, a set of Q Towers and one pair of crossbars. Check the fit configurator to see which clips and crossbar length is correct for your vehicle.
Q: Will Q Clips work with older towers?
A: Q Clips will integrate with Q Towers only. We make things retro-fittable where possible, but this is a case where it would have limited our ability to design the best system possible.
Q: I didnt see a recommended fit for my vehicle in the Fit Configurator. Dont you think one of these clips would be good enough?
A: Whoa, there! Even though we have over 130 unique clip shapes, dont think this is some kind of rack buffet. While we are very active in trying to fit all the vehicles that we can, there will be some that we just cant fit. It can be dangerous to attempt a fit that is not recommended.
Q: How much can I carry?
A: This varies by vehicle, load type and crossbar length. Check the fit configurator to find out what load types (bikes, skis, boats, etc.) and weight capacity applies to your car.
Q: How can I be sure the system is installed correctly?
A: There is no substitute for following all instructions. You can download instructions on our website. Be sure to perform both the Clip Safety Check and Tower Safety Check after every installation. The Q Clip instructions may have additional notes for your vehicle.
Q: Will it damage my car?
A: We take fitting cars very seriously, and do everything we can to minimize any effect our rack may have on your cars. However, anything coming into contact with a cars finish, including our racks, will have some effect over time, and some cars are more prone to these issues than others. So where the possibility of such issues is predictable, we make note of that in the Fit Configurator. When the rack will not be in use for an extended period, it is a good idea to take the rack off of the car. You can also do a lot for yourself by: (1) Making sure the car is clean and well waxed prior to installing the rack, (2) Following all instructions for installation and usage, and (3) avoiding situations, such as car washes, where the rack may be impacted.
